Pulp and Paper Customer Value Case Study
Challenge
One of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of tissue, pulp, paper, packaging, building products and related chemicals; was having quality problems. After slitting, the coated board stock tended to overlap on the rewind and caused excessive scrap. In addition to the overlapping problems, the mill was also having problems with bagging and sheet breaks.
Solution
American Roller’s Plasma Coatings Division used an onsite application of one of its coatings and the customer saw immediate improvement in all problem areas. Overlapped rolls and bagging are nonexistent and sheet breaks are extremely rare.
Customer Value
The customer measured their own value and estimates they will save $100,000 per year on waste and has committed to coating the roll as many as 3 times a year, for optimum performance. ROI for the customer, on a $6845 coating job was 6 weeks. In six months, this manufacturer saved $35,752 on overlapped rolls alone.
